From the octopus, to the lobster roll, to the fish, to the oysters, everything is always so fresh and delicious. The owners and staff are very knowledgeable and helpful! I go at least once a week if not more!

I’ve been going to scales since they first opened. I’ve shopped at scales for ready-made food, pop-up dinners, catering small events, and fresh seafood to cook at home. The hospitality and product quality is 5/5, we’re very lucky to have Tony and Geo in our neighborhood.

Lunch review only, as I have yet to actually purchase fresh seafood from this fishmonger:

Get the Ahi Tuna Crudo if you want plump juicy pieces marinated in a lightly sweetened soy sauce. I would've preferred no sugar, but the quality of everything else was on point. The Lobster Roll was loaded with plump chunks of lobster, tons of fresh dill, and just enough mayo to lubricate everything without drowning it.

But the Crab Cake Sandwich. Jimminy wow-lickers! Easily one of the best crab cakes I've ever had: loaded with fresh crab meat and very little filler (our server said it was ~80% vs. 20%), perfectly baked so that it was lightly crispy on the outside, and sandwiched between two pillowy soft brioche buns. This is the sandwich to get.

The only drawback of this place is how high the prices are. A lobster roll, for example, is $32. As a former Bostonian who lived there during the heyday of $15 lobster rolls, the prices make me want to wither and die. But my desire for seafood is too strong, so I will (begrudgingly) pay these prices when it's time for a treat.

I’m usually very picky about my fish and chips. After leaving Humboldt CA (we lived right by the ocean) I haven’t found a place that I’d be willing to drop some coin on for fish and chips. Scale Fish in Jersey City got me today… I’m grateful to find a place that provides sound service, amazing food, and a great atmosphere. You all will definitely be seeing my face again!

Finally an ethical fish market!! Purchased a variety of items to test out the quality and everything was top notch! The whole Bronzino tasted like what I’m used to having straight from the Mediterranean Sea! So fresh and exceeded my expectations. For the first time finally all the little neck clams I purchased opened up. Not a single clam went to waste. Wanted to shed a happy tear since I’m used to having to waste clams. Paid more than what I’m used to for their wild caught Ecuadorean pawns. They ended up turning out super juicy and buttery off the grill! Keep up the quality scale!

Amazing spot. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. I had questions about preparing different types of white fish and they gave me great recommendations. They have a cozy little seating area and set up outdoor tables in the summer. You can BYOB. A bit pricey, but worth it. They have a great oyster deal on Thursdays.
