Worth the adventure to get out to Shelter Island. The half chicken and sea bass were both delicious. Incredible atmosphere. Chefs are cooking right in the middle of the restaurant over an open fire.

My boyfriend and I were on shelter island for the weekend and we wanted to try this restaurant because we heard good things. We walked in at 5:15 restaurant was empty only one other table. We were greeted by a European server. She was very pushy into ordering more not very pleasant about it. I then went to the bathroom and the door was so hard to open it I got stuck inside that the server had to help me open the door. Second time I went to the bathroom I had to help a child open the door and to my surprise I got locked in again and it wouldn’t open more then halfway it’s a very heavy door that rolls to the side a young girl had to go get help. I told the manager about the concern and he just apologized and gave us a free dessert. Food is ok service is lacking !!$

In my opinion, Leon 1909 is the best restaurant on the East End. All of the food is cooked over open fire with wood harvested from Shelter Island itself. I have dined here several times and the food and service are always excellent. The wine list is extensive and well curated with options from $59 to DRC in the thousands and everywhere in between. The red shrimp crudo and ribeye are always excellent and the burger and chicken are classics. A must visit culinary experience when you are in The Hamptons. 5/5.

Wow. The quality of the food at Leon burns as brightly as the multi foot fire used to cook the food. We strongly recommend.

Our server - Zach - recommended an off menu bone in Ribeye with a chermoula spice to share between the two of us. Great suggestion Zach! The chef created the best steaks I’ve had in years through the combination of high quality meat (apparently local), the interesting spice rub, and perfect cooking.

The chef did a really good job on the Chicken Liver Mousse as well.

We sat outside. I’d suggest trying to sit inside, to see the fire, if you get the chance.

A fabulous new addition to the Shelter Island dining scene! The modest wine list is the best on the Island and the service was great. The open hearth kitchen is bustling with activity and the show is worth the price of entry.

The short comings included an overdressed salad, and a fire roasted clams and sausage that was unacceptably salty. While I could look past the salad, the clams knocked it down a star.

Leon 1909 is actually the best place to have a nice dinner date with your partner , i am currently eating the best burger and fries i have ever tasted in my entire life in the restaurant. You guys should not miss out on this opportunity to taste the best food of your life .

I went last week to the restaurant and it was such an amazing experience. All the dishes taste SO GOOD, but I must highlight the Shrimp Crudo, this dish absolutely amazed me in every way. Also, the restaurant it is so well organized and the service is exceptional. I truly had a great experience and I look forward to come as many times as I’m able because this was such an experience to repeat.
